“In her last race Corey (Nakatani) thought she ran in spurts a little bit,” said Hollendorfer. “We’ve worked her in blinkers a few times, and she went very well. The original plan was to try her on the turf in an allowance race last week, but she’s been training so well that the decision was made to take a shot in the Oaks and try and get her more black type.”

Following the Pegasus, Breaking Lucky ran a bang-up second in the New Orleans Handicap (G2) before having a tough trip over the sloppy going in the Alysheba Stakes (G2) on Kentucky Oaks day.
Last year, after getting beat just a neck in the Woodward Stakes (G1) at Saratoga, the Reade Baker trainee was second to Gun Runner in the Clark Handicap (G1) at Churchill.
The Stephen Foster Handicap is the highlight of Saturday’s Downs After Dark card with post time at 9:45 ET. Breaking Lucky breaks from post two under Luis Contreras.
