Spooky Woods Splashes to Victory / Monday, January 23, 2017

She did the “spooky splash”! Spooky Woods got her picture taken after going gate to wire in a maiden special weight on a rainy Friday at Santa Anita.

Under confident handling by jockey Flavien Prat, the Ghostzapper filly broke on top and established control. Prat had a loop in the rein most of the way and rode her like she was the best filly in the race.

Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the West Point buying team purchased Spooky Woods at the 2016 Barretts March 2-Year-Old in Training Sale.

“Jerry and his team have always like this filly,” said West Point EVP Jeff Lifson. “In her previous starts she came up against fillies like Shane’s Girlfriend and Mopotism and ran well. She ran a 7.75 on the Ragozin Sheets in her last start, which is a huge number for a 3-year-old filly this early in the year. Two turns is her game and we’re excited about her.”

What’s in a name? Spooky Woods is a play off the filly’s pedigree. She’s by Ghostzapper out of the Forestry mare Winter Forest.
