West Point Thoroughbreds’ multiple stakes-winning New York-bred Empire Dreams has been retired from racing after suffering an ankle injury following a workout at Belmont Park.  

Trained by Tom Albertrani for most of his career, the 6-year-old gelding is a five-time stakes winner, with his most notable victory coming in the 2015 Empire Classic. He also captured the New York Stallion Series as a 2-year-old, the New York Derby as a 3-year-old, and the Commentator and Alex Robb Stakes as a 4-year-old. Empire Dreams retires with a record of 6-8-4 from 24 starts and earnings of $813,751.

“We’ve been fortunate to campaign some very successful New York-breds, and Empire Dreams is at the top of the list,” said West Point Thoroughbreds president Terry Finley. “He rarely threw in a clunker and provided his partners with a lot of thrills. We opted to have surgery done at New Bolton to repair a fractured sesamoid in his ankle to give him the best chance of having a second athletic career. It will be bittersweet not seeing him gallop by every morning this summer in Saratoga.”

Bred in New York by Pegasus Dream Stable, Empire Dreams is out of the Thunder Gulch mare Ascended Dreams. He was bought by West Point for $35,000 at the 2013 OBS April 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.
