Less than three weeks ago, Super Corredora was a maiden and still a bit of a disappointment. Promising in the morning, she had finished fifth and third in her first two races, both in sprints. But oh what a difference 20 days can make: a beautiful filly, exquisitely-bred and inspiring the confidence of a top-class trainer, she realized her potential with the chance to stretch out in distance.

After running away with a mile maiden special weight on October 11, the filly took a huge step up in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) on October 31 at Del Mar and proved she was more than up to the challenge for the ever-game trainer John Sadler. The daughter of Gun Runner sped to the early lead, withstood fast fractions and held strong to prevail by three-quarters of a length with jockey Hector Berrios, who was brilliant in registering his first Breeders’ Cup victory.

Sadler and West Point were succeeding again on the Breeders’ Cup stage, three years after conquering the Breeders’ Cup Classic together with Flightline.

West Point CEO Terry Finley said in the winner’s circle, “This morning I thought, ‘Three years went by really fast, and it’d be great to be back in the winner’s circle.’ Everything went really well. I appreciate all the Partners. Obviously we’re a partnership company, but I appreciate our boy John Sadler and his team and the rider. Everything just really fell into place.”

Sadler said, “She’s a filly we had really high hopes for. We always expected she could get two turns. She has a beautiful stride. It didn’t go smooth this summer. The first time she drew the one hole and didn’t really get it. She improved in the second and she’s improved every time. We’re in our own backyard. We weren’t sure we were going to run but we trained her a little bit here and she trained well and here we are.”

Berrios said, “(John Sadler) told me to be confident. And now I’m very excited for this moment.”

Bloodstock agent David Ingordo helped select Super Corredora at the 2024 Keeneland September yearling sale for West Point and co-owners Spartan Equine Racing, Robert Gardiner and Michael Olszewski. She received her breaking and early training lessons at Eisaman Equine near Ocala. The filly moved to John’s barn at Santa Anita in April and he had her pegged all along as an exciting prospect.

It all came together in the month of October!
