Take Two for Turned Aside’s WPT Debut / Tuesday, January 19, 2021

After storms washed out Turned Aside’s scheduled West Point debut at Fair Grounds last weekend, he gets a quick raincheck with a new target Wednesday in the Tampa Turf Dash Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.

Purchased out of a dispersal at the Keeneland January sale, Turned Aside is coming off a victory in the Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship in November, and he captured the Grade 3 Quick Call Stakes three races back at Saratoga. Mark Casse now trains the son of Triple Crown hero American Pharoah.

Turned Aside will take on nine rivals in the 5-furlong Turf Dash, including the top-class veteran Imprimis.

The 4yo colt sharpened up with a three-furlong workout in :35 last Sunday at Fair Grounds, a day after scratching when the track moved the Colonel Power Stakes from turf to dirt due to heavy rain.
