Tiz the Lady Extends WPT’s Success in New York / Tuesday, June 16, 2026

Tiz the Lady became the latest West Point Thoroughbreds runner to join the winner’s circle in New York this season when she rallied from off the pace to capture a maiden event on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on Saturday.

With a beautiful trip underneath Jose Lezcano, the daughter of Belmont and Travers Stakes winner Tiz the Law saved ground early before angling out entering the stretch and producing a determined late run to take command inside the sixteenth pole and hold safely to the wire.

Trained by Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey, Tiz the Lady earned her first career victory while becoming West Point’s ninth winner from 39 starts (23 percent) at a NYRA racetrack in 2026. The stable has now won New York races with nine different horses this year, ranging from maiden and allowance runners to stakes winners and Grade 1 Acorn Stakes hero Counting Stars, underscoring the depth of the roster as Saratoga season approaches.

Tiz the Lady was acquired at the 2025 OBS April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale.
