Twilight Eclipse Completes First Horse Trial / Thursday, August 3, 2017

Retired grade one winner Twilight Eclipse completed his first horse trial on July 31 with West Point’s racing manager Erin Birkenhauer.

The 8-year-old gelding last raced on May 20 before shipping to his new home in Kentucky in mid-June. Having been in a retraining program for only five weeks, it’s pretty remarkable that he’s jumping courses so confidently. The gelding didn’t miss more than a couple days of training in five years on the racetrack, and his work ethic is incredibly strong.

A four-time Breeders’ Cup Turf participant who set a world record for a mile and a half on any surface in the 2013 Pan American Stakes (gr. IIT), Twilight Eclipse retired with an overall record of 8-5-11 from 40 starts and earnings of $2,103,953.

Bred in Kentucky by Epona Thoroughbreds, Twilight Eclipse is out of the Twilight Agenda mare My Twilight Dancer. Initially purchased for $1,000 by John Langemeier at the 2010 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale, West Point Thoroughbreds purchased Twilight Eclipse privately in the summer of 2012 following two wins at Indiana Grand.
