Twilight Eclipse Morning Line 2nd Choice in Sword Dancer (G1) / Friday, August 28, 2015

Twilight Eclipse, grade one winner and earner of over $1.6 million tries for his second grade one win in the $1,000,000 Sword Dancer Invitational (G1) on Saturday at Saratoga. He was second in the race to Big Blue Kitten in 2013 and third behind Main Sequence in 2014.

Installed as the 7/2 morning line second choice, Twilight Eclipse’s main rival is European runner Flintshire. Flintshire and Twilight Eclipse were second and third respectively in the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) at Santa Anita.

West Point’s 5-year-old gelded son of Purim notched his well-deserved first grade one win in the Man O’War Stakes at Belmont on May 9. He then followed the win with a very good third place finish in the United Nations (G1) at Monmouth on July 5 with a less than ideal trip.

“We’ve waited the whole meet for this race,” said WPT Chief Operating Officer Tom Bellhouse. “After the United Nations, we were tempted to run him in the Bowling Green early at Saratoga, but decided to take dead aim at the Sword Dancer and come into it with a fresh horse. He’s really an amazing horse. If you look at his last nine races, all but one were grade ones, and he hit the board in all but one. I really think he could have won the UN. He was loaded with nowhere to run.”

“Twilight Eclipse shows up every time, I wish they were all this consistent,” said trainer Tom Albertrani. “He’s a great horse to be around and I think he’s got a big shot on Saturday.”

The Sword Dancer is race 10 with a 5:04 ET post time. Twilight Eclipse breaks from post five under Joel Rosario.
