Classy veteran Twilight Eclipse found the winner’s circle for the eighth time in his career, taking an allowance race at Belmont Park on July 8.

Twilight Eclipse in reserve at the rear of the compact field between foes in the two path, remained patiently handled until set down swinging three wide for home, rallied to take narrow command a furlong out, edged away under a vigorous hand ride to finish.

“This was an interesting race as it was written for non winners of 40k since December,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “After the Belmont Gold Cup we were leaning toward running in the United Nations, but ultimately couldn’t pass up the opportunity to run in a restricted allowance for a nice pot in his own backyard. He tries so hard and has been unlucky a number of times in his career. This is a well-deserved win.”

Twilight Eclipse will likely have one more start before the $600,000 Calumet Farm Kentucky Turf Cup (G2) on Saturday, September 10 at Kentucky Downs.
