Vahva scored her first stakes win in the Charles Town Oaks (G3) two years ago. On Friday night, she will return to the same track and seven-furlong distance, listed at 3-to-5 odds in a 4-horse field for the $250,000 Pink Ribbon Stakes.
The 5-year-old mare is coming off a repeat triumph in the Grade 2 Chicago Stakes at Churchill Downs for trainer Cherie DeVaux, who is charting a course to the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) at Del Mar. Regular rider Irad Ortiz Jr. has the call.
A daughter of Gun Runner, Vahva will take on last year’s Charles Town Oaks winner Mystic Lake, pegged at 8-to-5 odds.
