West Point Buys Filly from France / Wednesday, February 8, 2017

West Point Thoroughbreds recently purchased Boreale, a 4-year-old Makfi filly a three-time winner in France. She won her most recent start in a rousing finish against the boys on December 28 at Deauville.

She touched down on American soil this morning and will take up residence at Fair Hill Training Center under the care of trainer Graham Motion. Motion trains Irish War Cry, recent winner of the Holy Bull Stakes and top Kentucky Derby contender.

Her family is chock full of graded stakes winners (including our own Divine Oath) and stems from the Phipps family that includes Personal Ensign (this filly’s 4th dam), Miner’s Mark, My Flag, Storm Flag Flying and Traditionally.

“We’re excited to add a nice European filly like Boreale to the stable,” said West Point’s Joe Migliore. “She has the potential to be a stakes filly in America, and that’s why we’re turning the reins over to Graham. Being stabled at Fair Hill gives us plenty of flexibility and will enable us to manager her creatively.”
