Slider has been silky smooth in answering challenges since West Point latched onto him about seven months ago at the OBS April sale of two-year-olds in training. On Friday, the colt will be put to an elite test in the $1-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1), defending his home course at Santa Anita Park.
Slider broke his maiden on dirt this summer at Del Mar and then aced a switch to grass in the Speakeasy Stakes, the local prep at Santa Anita for the five-furlong Juvenile Turf Sprint. Hector Berrios will ride him again Friday with post 11 in a field of 12.
Slider is trained by John Sadler, who teamed with West Point last year for a grand finale from Flightline in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland. Bloodstock agent David Ingordo helped select both Flightline and Slider.
