Recent Aqueduct maiden winner Septimius Severus has been purchased privately by West Point Thoroughbreds, Dean and Patti Reeves, and Randy Hill and moved to trainer George Weaver. He joins seven other West Point 2-year-olds who have broken their maidens this year.

The handsome Pennsylvania-bred son of Roman Ruler closed like a freight train to score by a nose at first asking for trainer Charlton Baker on November 25. The effort earned him a rock solid 82 Beyer Speed Figure.

The handsome Pennsylvania-bred son of Roman Ruler closed like a freight train to score by a nose at first asking for trainer Charlton Baker on November 25. The effort earned him a rock solid 82 Beyer Speed Figure.

George Weaver loved his colt in the race — runner-up Thunder’s Honour and called Baker shortly after the race to try to get a deal done on the winner.  

“I watched the colt train alongside George Weaver a few days after the race and really liked him,” says West Point president Terry Finley. “He has a soft, intelligent eye, a good body, and a nice demeanor. Through social media, our Partners got wind that we closed the deal, and he was sold out within hours. He’s already down at Palm Beach Downs and hopefully gets us back on the Kentucky Derby trail.”

Earlier the same week West Point purchased Chilean Derby hero Full of Luck in partnership with Jerry Hollendorfer.

Over the past few years we’ve increased the number of privately purchased horses in the barn and enjoyed quite a bit of success with stakes horses like Twilight Eclipse, Ground Transport, Boreale, Breaking Lucky, Always Dreaming, amongst others.
