Zverev put the pieces together for a maiden win at Turfway Park on Saturday with a strong ride from Jose Ortiz.

Named for tennis star Alexander Zverev, the 3-year-old colt pounced in the stretch to upstage older horses and win by a length for trainer Cherie DeVaux.

Zverev was one of three winners on the card for his sire, Oscar Performance. Zverev’s dam, the Thunder Gulch mare Balance, was a multiple Grade 1 winner.

The bay colt was acquired at the 2023 OBS April sale of two-year-olds in training. He races for West Point, Belladonna Racing, Peachtree Stable and Twin Brook Stables.
