- Grab a great burger and beer at Chief’s Burgers and Brew in Solana Beach. This place is right near the train station.
- Stroll/shop/eat on Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach.

- Rent a paddleboard, pontoon boat, jet ski, etc. at the Carlsbad Lagoon.
- Visit the Carlsbad Outlet Mall if you need a shopping fix.
- Stroll/eat/shop in downtown Encinitas. Also, visit Moonlight Beach — there’s a fire pit and kid’s park.
- Take it all in on a beautiful coastal drive and see the beautiful beaches of La Jolla, Del Mar, Solana, Cardiff, Encinitas & Carlsbad.
- Spend an afternoon at Birch Aquarium in La Jolla at UC San Diego.
- Stroll downtown La Jolla and La Jolla Cove. Enjoy Happy Hour at George’s at the Cove Oceanview Restaurant. Visit the seals at the children’s pool at La Jolla Cove.
- Tour the USS Midway and have lunch at the Fish Market right on the water in downtown San Diego.
- Catch a Padres game at Petco Park.
- Head to one of the Dollase girls’ favorites spots, the San Diego Zoo.
- Ride the SEAL Tours boat for a unique city and bay tour and also walk around the Seaport Village in San Diego.
- Catch a show at San Diego Symphony.
- Spend the night in a tent right by the elephants at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido. This is a great place to walk around, and if you plan ahead, you can stay overnight.
- Rent 4-seater car bikes on Coronado, and ride all day around the island. You can also book fishing and kayak trips and other outdoor activities at Hotel Del Coronado.
- Visit Sea World San Diego.
- Visit Belmont Park (no, not in NY). This is a beachfront amusement park in Mission Beach. Take a walk on the beach after you ride the coasters.
- Enjoy the diversity of the Balboa Park Museums.
- Stop by Old Town San Diego if you’re feeling like Mexican food. Visit the Old Town Tequila Factory.
- Ride the downtown ferry across the bay to Coronado.
- Check out Legoland theme park in Carlsbad.
- Hike Annie’s Canyon Trail.
- Play a round at Pelly’s Mini Golf across the street from the track.
Things to Do With Adults
- Have dinner and/or drinks and enjoy the sunset at Jake’s Del Mar.
- After the races enjoy a drink at Brigantine Seafood Restaurant. Catch Fish Taco Tuesday while you sit on the balcony and watch the tractors prepare the racetrack for Wednesday morning training.
- Enjoy music/dancing at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. Have a drink at Viewpoint Brewing — it’s within walking distance from the track. They have great Beer and the smoked mac n cheese and meat and cheese boards are killer.
- Visit the Fairmont Grand Del Mar and schedule a massage.
- Have a date night at the Pamplemousse Grill. You can bring the kids here, but this is also a fun place for a night out as a couple or with friends. The Lobster Grilled Cheese is amazing, and they have delicious desserts and wine. This is a popular spot for racetrackers.
- Make a reservation for The Market Restaurant in Del Mar as soon as you know your dates. It’s very popular and well worth it.
- Enjoy happy hour at Altitude Sky Lounge at the Marriott right across the street from Petco Park in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Altitude is a nightclub as well.
- Have a sunset cocktail at the Hotel Del Coronado. Stroll the beaches and sidewalks.
- Take a hot air balloon ride over Del Mar.
- Enjoy dinner at Alce 101 Kitchen and Tequileria.
Del Mar is a great place to enjoy great racing and the beach.
