Run Away Rojo has been a warrior for West Point Thoroughbreds, and after 5 seasons of racing, the multiple stakes winner is heading into retirement, sound and on his own terms.
After a couple of subpar races, West Point and trainer Steve Asmussen made the decision to call it a career and the 6-year-old gelding retires with 7 victories from 25 starts and earnings of $352,714.
Run Away Rojo proved to be a rewarding discovery off the beaten path at the OBS spring sale of two-year-olds in 2022 as bloodstock agent David Ingordo secured the Indiana-bred son of Run Away and Hide for $120,000. He developed into a multiple stakes winner and a model of consistency, winning at ages 3, 4, 5 and 6.
He will now head to a retirement farm that West Point has trusted with its horses for many years, beginning the next chapter of a life he has earned. For a horse purchased as a value play four years ago, Run Away Rojo provided plenty of value—and even more to admire.
