Counting Stars Shines in Championship-Caliber Campaign / Friday, October 9, 2026

Counting Stars concluded a remarkable 3-year-old campaign Sunday at Keeneland, finishing second against older fillies and mares in the $650,000 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (G1).

Irad Ortiz Jr. said, “She ran really good. It didn’t work out our way today, but I’m very happy with the filly. She’s a 3-year-old and she’s already really good, so that’s exciting.”

The Spinster completed an ambitious stretch of 12 races in a little more than 12 months, during which Counting Stars established herself among the country’s leading fillies and put together a résumé worthy of Eclipse Award consideration, with victories in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes and Coaching Club American Oaks and Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes

Much of the credit belongs to Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse and his team, who expertly managed Counting Stars through a demanding and highly successful season.

“I’m proud of her. She ran great,” Casse said. “We’ll send her home now for a rest and try to win the Breeders’ Cup next year.”

Counting Stars will receive a well-earned break before returning at four, with the 2027 Breeders’ Cup Distaff serving as the ultimate goal.
