Bear Alley landed West Point’s 50th win of the year Wednesday at Churchill Downs, but not without a few anxious moments waiting for the resolution of a photo finish.
Jockey Joe Talamo even dismounted Bear Alley on the track and weighed out, skeptical that he would be entering the winner’s circle, but that changed when the official photo came back and showed that Bear Alley prevailed along the inside by a nose.
Bear Alley doggedly nailed down his third win of 2021, all at Churchill Downs. West Point reached the 50-win mark, compared to 45 victories for all of 2020. With 5 weeks to go on the season, WPT runners have earned $4,122,001. This is the fourth time West Point has surpassed $4-million.
