St. Elias Stable’s and West Point Thoroughbreds’ Briny Marlin broke his maiden in fine fashion in a Florida-bred maiden race on Saturday at Gulfstream.
From the first crop of Haskell winner Paynter, the colt is out of a Smart Strike mare a half- brother to grade one winner Peace and War. He’s bred on the same cross as five grade one winners: WPT’s Awesome Gem, Awesome Feather, Better Lucky, Molly Morgan, and Starship Truffles.

Briny Marlin made his debut in September at Delaware Park for trainer Anthony Margotta, Jr. before heading down to Crupi’s New Castle Farm in Ocala, Florida toward the end of 2017. He’d been training forwardly for his seasonal bow, and we knew he’d be tough — Margotta runners win at a 27% clip second time out!
Congratulations to his Partners!
