A promising second in the Grade 3 With Anticipation Stakes on August 31 at Saratoga, Carson’s Run wheels back with a Grade 1 credential and Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” berth on the line Saturday in the Summer Stakes at Woodbine.
The one-mile Summer offers an automatic entry to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. West Point has been down this road before, winning the Summer Stakes in 2017 with Untamed Domain and in 2019 with Decorated Invader.
Christophe Clement trained Decorated Invader and now has Carson’s Run, who won his debut at Saratoga on July 29 and was beaten a half-length in the With Anticipation.
The chestnut son of Cupid was acquired at the OBS April sale of 2-year-olds in training. He is 4-to-1 on the morning line in a field of 11 and Dylan Davis retains the mount.
Dylan was in the saddle two weeks ago when West Point and Christophe scored a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” triumph with Parnac in the Flower Bowl Stakes (G2T) at Saratoga.
West Point is bidding for a stakes win for the fourth week in a row, as Parnac has been bookended by Vahva winning the Charles Town Oaks (G3) and Integration winning the Virginia Derby (G3).
