Classic Colors Connects at Belmont in Season Debut / Tuesday, May 24, 2022

The opportunity and result were very familiar for Classic Colors on Sunday when she opened her season for the second year in a row with a spring allowance victory on the turf at Belmont Park.

The 4-year-old New York-bred daughter of Street Sense rallied from last place and spurted away late for jockey Jose Ortiz, who was about 18 hours removed from his Preakness Stakes victory Saturday on Early Voting.

Jose said, “She was perfect today. When I dropped my hands after the break she relaxed so easy, I was extremely confident turning for home. When I shook the reins she gave me exactly the run I was looking for.”

Christophe Clement trains Classic Colors and also had her ready to win right off the bat last year: she scored in an entry-level allowance with Ortiz aboard on April 24, 2021.

Acquired as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred sale with co-owners Harrell Ventures and Kenneth and Gail Beitz, Classic Colors has won three times in seven career starts and earned $135,405.
