Galilean Nails Turf Debut in California Dreamin’ at Del Mar / Monday, July 27, 2020

Turf or dirt, no problem for Galilean, who notched his fifth stakes win Sunday at Del Mar with a terrific ride from Flavien Prat in the $125,000 California Dreamin’ Stakes.

The 4-year-old colt had just prevailed by 4 lengths on the dirt in the Soi Phet Stakes at Los Alamitos on June 27. Trainer John Sadler deduced Galilean might be just as dangerous on the turf, and sensed that the California Dreamin’ would be the right time to find out.

Prat guided him with supreme confidence, as Galilean tucked in just off the pace, angled between horses to grab the lead at the top of the stretch and dashed away.

“This horse today put me in a good spot, I was able to save ground and he ran well to finish,” Prat said.

Galilean pushed his career bankroll to $514,098. West Point races him with Denise Barker, Bill Sandbrook, John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.

John Sadler said, “A beautiful ride by Flavien. A ground-saving trip and he liked the turf just as we thought he would. We like to run twice here so we’ll look for something at the end of the meet.”
