Giant and Game in the Grade 3 Cornhusker / Sunday, July 9, 2023

Giant Game answered every challenge in delivering his first stakes win Saturday night in the $300,000 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap (G3) outside Des Moines, Iowa.

The 4-year-old colt controlled the pace with a terrific ride from Martin Garcia and was game to fend off late threats from the top two choices and prevail by three-quarters of a length.

Giant Game is from the small final crop of top sire Giant’s Causeway. He distinguished himself as a 2-year-old with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) in 2021. On May 11 with Garcia up for the first time, he scored with similar speed and grit in a Churchill Downs allowance.

It was a special hometown win for co-owner Albaugh Family Stable, whose principal Dennis Albaugh was inducted into the Prairie Meadows Hall of Fame over the weekend.

Dale Romans trains Giant Game and helped pick him out as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky showcase sale in 2020.
