The West Point team added a colt with a powerful mix of precocity and proven class—a son of Nyquist, Champion 2-Year-Old Colt and winner of the Kentucky Derby (G1). A classic winner by Uncle Mo, Nyquist earned over $5.1 million and captured five Grade 1 races, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Florida Derby. He has quickly established himself among the leading young stallions in North America, already siring 30 black-type winners and progeny with earnings of more than $43 million, including champions Immersive, Vequist, and Gretzky the Great.
This colt’s female family is equally impressive. His dam, Wild Ridge, is a daughter of Tapit and has already produced Clubhouse, a multiple stakes-placed runner in New York with earnings of more than $200,000. The second dam, Wild Gams, was a brilliant and durable sprinter, a multiple graded stakes winner of nearly $1.2 million, with victories in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G3), Safely Kept Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G3), and a track record performance at Presque Isle Downs. She also placed in the Prioress Stakes (G1).
This family continues to produce at the highest levels with graded winners Cazadero, victorious in the Nearctic Stakes (G2) and Bashford Manor (G3), and Dubyuhnell, winner of the Remsen Stakes (G2). The Nyquist over Tapit cross adds both precocity and stamina, pointing to a colt who can be effective at two and progress into a classic-type 3-year-old.
From a physical standpoint, he’s a strong, well-balanced individual with the scope and athleticism to carry his speed.
The colt will be trained by Dale Romans, a veteran, Eclipse Award-winning conditioner with a long history of success developing Grade 1 winners and top-class colts on the biggest stages.
