This bay colt by Practical Joke brings together two proven sire influences in Practical Joke and Pioneerof the Nile, with the strength of the pedigree concentrated at the top.

Practical Joke has established himself as one of the most consistent sires in North America, finishing among the top 10 general sires in 2025 and currently ranking sixth in 2026. A multiple Grade 1 winner himself and a son of perennial leading sire Into Mischief, he has already sired 57 black-type winners and six champions, including Grade 1 winners Ways and Means and Practical Move.

Ways and Means is a top contender for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and has been a force at Saratoga throughout her career with wins there at 2, 3, 4 and 5, including a Grade 1 triumph last time out by more than 5 lengths in the Ballerina.

Just as importantly for a yearling purchase, Practical Joke continues to get precocious runners. He has already been represented by nine 2-year-old winners in 2026, another indication of his ability to consistently produce horses who get to the races and perform early.

The colt’s dam is by Pioneerof the Nile, giving him another major classic influence on the bottom side of the pedigree. Best known as the sire of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, Pioneerof the Nile has also developed into an influential broodmare sire, adding another proven element to the mating. Trainer Cherie DeVaux has sung the praises of Pioneerof the Nile as a broodmare sire and for good reason based on her experience with Graded stakes winner Beatbox and West Point’s stakes-placed Paige Turner, who are both out of Pioneerof the Nile mares.

Cherie’s program continues to operate at the highest level, headlined by Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner Golden Tempo, Breeders’ Cup winner More Than Looks, and top sprinter Englishman, along with outstanding fillies including West Point’s Vahva and champion She Feels Pretty.
