Last seen capturing the Grade 3 Maryland Sprint on Preakness Day, Jaxon Traveler switches from dirt to turf on Saturday in the Ben’s Cat Stakes for Maryland-breds at Laurel Park.
The 4-year-old colt will be back in action after receiving some extra recovery time following a career-best performance in the Maryland Sprint.
Jaxon Traveler is based at Belmont Park with trainer Steve Asmussen but he loves returning home to his home state, where has earned champion state-bred honors in each of his first two seasons. Jaxon Traveler’s two previous grass outings were in open company and he ran creditably, finishing third to Golden Pal in the Grade 3 Quick Call last summer at Saratoga and third in October’s Armed Forces at Belmont.
Feargal Lynch has the mount on Jaxon Traveler for the first time.
