Legalize Lays Down the Law at Fair Grounds / Friday, December 29, 2023

Legalize issued an exciting decree in his first stakes opportunity on December 23 in New Orleans, driving clear to a 2 3/4-length win in the $100,000 Sugar Bowl at Fair Grounds.

The 2-year-old Constitution colt answered the challenge a month after breaking his maiden at Churchill Downs in his second career start.

Trainer Cherie DeVaux has been bullish about Legalize since he arrived in the barn and pulled the right strings here in deciding to head for the Sugar Bowl instead of a longer allowance.

Winning jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. said, “He was there for me the whole way and it was nice that he actually settled off the two speed horses and when I called on him he put those two away pretty easily.”

West Point campaigns Legalize in a racing partnership with Twin Brook Stables, Belladonna Racing, LLC, Nice Guys Stables, Iapetus Racing, S. Hornstock, Runnels Racing, Perrine Time Thoroughbreds, R T R Stables, LLC, Peppermint Stables, LLC and Manganaro Bloodstock.

Legalize was acquired from DeMeric Sales at the OBS April sale of two-year-olds in training.
