O Besos Leads Brigade for 3 Stakes on Risen Star Day / Tuesday, February 9, 2021

By Saturday, we will be more than ready for the Risen Star card at Fair Grounds with three West Point runners sitting on go for stakes races, including a major Kentucky Derby prep.

O Besos leads the charge, seeking his third straight win and stepping onto the main stage for the first time in the $400,000 Risen Star Stakes, the biggest qualifier to date on the road to the Derby, with 85 points up for grabs.

The chestnut colt has won two straight over the track at Fair Grounds for trainer Greg Foley. Marcelina Pedroza has the call.

Paulick Report: Relationship Building Brings O Besos, WPT Together

Turned Aside will make his WPT debut in the $100,000 Colonel Power Stakes, a little more than a month after commanding one of the top prices at the Keeneland January sale.

Turned Aside completed his 3-year-old season in November with a win over older horses in the Aqueduct Turf Championship Stakes. Now trained by Mark Casse, Turned Aside will have Adam Beschizza up in the 5 1/2-furlong Colonel Power.

The ever-dependable Room to Finish will march back to her favorite turf course in the Albert M. Stall Stakes for fillies and mares. She won the Ladies Turf on Louisiana Champions Day there in November and came back to finish second in open company in the Marie Krantz Memorial. Beschizza will be back aboard her.
