Ring Weekend Set For Fourstardave (G1) / Friday, August 19, 2016

Grade one winner Ring Weekend seeks his second stakes win on the Saratoga lawn when he goes postward in Saturday’s $500,000 Fourstardave Handicap (G1). The race was rescheduled after heavy rains hit Saratoga last Saturday, August 20.

The 5-year-old Tapit gelding ran a huge second off an extended layoff in the $250,000 Dixie Stakes (G2) on May 21 at Pimlico. He had a minor setback that prevented him from racing in the King George Stakes at Woodbine in July, but came back and put in a series of strong workouts at Fair Hill. On Friday he breezed six panels with graded stakes winner Messi, who is entered in the American St. Leger Stakes at Arlington.

The Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) is the ultimate goal for this talented Graham Motion trainee. This year’s Breeders’ Cup is held at Santa Anita, which is where he won the Frank E. Kilroe Mile (G1) in 2015.

“It’s been a long road with this horse, and we’re thrilled to have him back in action” said WPT president Terry Finley. “He’s as naturally talented and athletic as they come and we have a lot of confidence in him even with this being only his second start since March of last year. We considered running in the Lure last weekend, but Graham felt he would benefit from one more work and sees no reason why he won’t run huge against the big boys.”

Post time for the Fourstardave is 5:40 ET. Ring Weekend breaks from post six under Hall of Fame pilot John Velazquez.
