Signator surged to his first stakes win in Saturday’s Henry S. Clark at Laurel Park, improving to 2-for-2 since switching to turf for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey and upstart jockey Samuel Marin. A standout at the OBS April sale in 2022, Signator capped a banner week for West Point Thoroughbreds, which welcomed seven promising new 2-year-olds from this year’s Ocala sale — including the sale-topper — and celebrated three additional wins on the track Saturday.
Signator also added another chapter to a wonderful association between West Point and the elite sire Tapit. West Point co-owned Tapit’s superstar Horse of the Year Flightline and this year the stable is on the cusp of the Kentucky Derby with Tapit’s son Sandman, who will carry a Grade 1 victory in the Arkansas Derby into the First Saturday in May.
A striking gray colt like Sandman, Signator rallied through the stretch to prevail by a half-length in the one-mile Henry S. Clark.
Campaigned with racing partners Woodford Racing, Lane’s End Racing, Phipps Stable and Ken Langone, Signator has won five times and has earned $290,930.
Earlier on the card at Laurel, Independenceavenue found the road to victory again for trainer Arnaud Delacour, driving through the stretch to score by three-quarters of a length in a turf sprint allowance.
A 4-year-old filly, Independenceavenue now owns four wins and earnings of $150,493. West Point’s bloodstock advisor David Ingordo acquired her for $50,000 as an OBS 2-year-old.
Also Saturday at Gulfstream Park, 3-year-olds Vibe and Moment’s Notice both graduated with honors in maiden special weight company on the dirt. Emisael Jaramillo piloted both of them.
Adding blinkers and stretching out to a mile for trainer Todd Pletcher, Vibe drew off impressively to win by 9 3/4 lengths.
West Point races Vibe with Repole Stable, CJ Stables, Woodford Racing, Lane’s End Racing and Patrick McGee.
Two races later, Moment’s Notice broke through by 7 1/2 lengths for trainer Christophe Clement. The son of More Than Ready had placed three times as a 2-year-old last year and again in his 2025 debut in March.
West Point, Donarra Thoroughbreds and CJ Stables acquired him at the 2024 OBS April sale.
