Vahva Sharpening Up For Breeders’ Cup / Friday, October 18, 2024

Vahva had a major work gearing up for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1), going five furlongs at Keeneland in 59.60 (2/11) in company with Pyrenees, who is preparing for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. That was the plan, but the duo also hooked up with Mufasa, who will be one of the favorites for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

“They all finished together, like good little soldiers,” Cherie said. “She looked great and it was a good tightener. She came out of the work in good shape and physically looks fantastic. She has had that peak condition this whole year and hasn’t taken a step back from it.”

A Grade 1 winner this spring on Kentucky Derby Day, Vahva will ship West on Monday, October 28 to compete in the $1-million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) run at seven furlongs on the dirt on Saturday, November 2 at Del Mar. The Filly and Mare Sprint is scheduled to be run as Race 10 on the Saturday card at 4:05 PT/7:05 ET and will air on USA Network, on the Peacock streaming app, and on FanDuel TV.
