West Point Acquires Interest in Liam’s Map / Friday, September 11, 2015

West Point Thoroughbreds is proud and honored to announce that the stable now owns a minority interest in Woodward Stakes (G1) winner Liam’s Map. The 4-year-old colt owned by Teresa Viola Racing Stables and trained by Todd Pletcher is now pointing for either the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) or Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1).

“My wife Debbie and I are incredibly grateful Teresa and her husband Vinnie afforded our team the opportunity to be involved with Liam’s Map,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “I’m very excited to continue our partnership with such a brilliant horse. The Viola’s patience paid off, and they’ve developed Liam’s Map into one of the best horses in the country.”

Finley and Vinnie Viola are both graduates of the United States Military Academy at West Point and met in the 1990s at a Thoroughbred auction. As West Point graduates, they share a special bond. They also share an intense passion for horse racing, and that’s ultimately what led them to become partners.

Vinnie Viola first became an owner in the 1990s before taking a sabbatical from racing to devote his time to his part ownership of the New Jersey Nets. The Violas re-entered the industry in 2012 by becoming partners on several horses with West Point Thoroughbreds under the nom-de-course St. Elias Stables. They celebrated their first graded stakes win with Freedom Child in 2012 and first grade one win with Ring Weekend earlier this year.
