Brigadier General Fights Back to Win Comeback / Tuesday, February 28, 2023

Brigadier General made his first start of 2023 a winning and dramatic one Saturday at Fair Grounds as he fought back along the rail in deep stretch and got the bob at the wire.

The 4-year-old colt hit the board in the St. Louis Derby last summer and received a short vacation last fall with the idea to have him ready to roll as an older horse. That’s how things played out in Saturday’s comeback for trainer Dallas Stewart.

The meet’s leading rider Reylu Gutierrez was the pilot. West Point acquired Brigadier General for $150,000 as a yearling at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky in a special consolidated sale during the COVID-19 pandemic. He broke his maiden at Keeneland last spring and could make his next start there in April.
