England’s Rose rises to victory, rewards patience / Monday, January 4, 2021

England’s Rose, purchased in the same group of yearlings as stakes winners Carressa (grade 3), Giza Goddess (graded-placed) and Hard Not to Love (grade 1), jumpstarted her career at age 5 with a strong rally that vaulted her and jockey Umberto Rispoli to the Santa Anita winner’s circle on January 3.

Stretching out to 9 furlongs for her third career start, the chestnut mare put the pieces together as a 9-to-5 favorite for trainer John Shirreffs.

Several setbacks delayed England’s Rose’s racing career, but along the way she convinced Shirreffs that she would be worth the wait.

“It was so rewarding to see her in the winner’s circle today,” John said. “This is what we hoped for, and now hopefully she will keep getting better.”
