First look at yearlings on the racetrack / Tuesday, December 10, 2019

Every December we gather with Partners in Florida for a glimpse of what we have to look forward to in the coming year.

This past Saturday was the annual winter open house at Eddie Woods training center in Ocala for a first look at yearlings training on the track, many of them only a month or so into the process. It is pretty amazing seeing a young horse that earlier this fall had never been ridden and now is confident, eager and developing rapidly in its daily gallops on the track, with the oversight of a master in Eddie Woods

We bookend this key time preparing for the racetrack with another open house in April, just before most of the group will be ready to join their trainers.

By that time, they will be spring two-year-olds who have advanced by leaps and bounds mentally and physically, and many of them will turn in a full workout in front of the partners that day to put an exclamation mark on their progress.
