This Ontario-bred colt by Hard Spun brings West Point back to a combination that delivered a beautiful success with Grade 1 winner Hard Not to Love: a yearling by Hard Spun, out of a Vindication mare, raised and offered by Anderson Farms. He will be trained by Miguel Clement, whose family has also enjoyed top-level success with Hard Spun’s offspring.
West Point acquired Hard Not to Love from Anderson Farms as a yearling, and the Ontario-bred filly went on to win five of her first six starts, including the La Brea Stakes (G1) and Santa Monica Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita. This colt offers that same sire–broodmare sire combination, which earned an A TrueNicks rating, along with a deep female family featuring stakes success across generations.
Anderson Farms also co-bred and raised West Point stakes winner Northern Invader.
Hard Spun, a son of the legendary Danzig, won seven races and more than $2.6 million, capturing the King’s Bishop Stakes (G1) at Saratoga and finishing second in both the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1). He has become an accomplished and versatile stallion, with 116 stakes winners and six champions. His leading runners include champion Questing, Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Aloha West, and Metropolitan Handicap winner Silver State, while West Point has also enjoyed stakes success with his son Keep It Easy.
This colt is out of By Golly Mis Molly, a winning daughter of Vindication, and is a half-brother to Katie Baby, who placed in three graded stakes at Woodbine, including runner-up finishes in the Hendrie Stakes (G3) and Ontario Matron Stakes (G3).
His second dam, Flawless Diamond, produced 10 winners from 12 starters, including Bison City Stakes winner Blue Heart and Ontario Damsel Stakes winner Financial Recovery. Hard Spun has already worked with this female family through Final Redemption, a stakes-placed half-sister to the colt’s dam.
As a registered Ontario-bred, this colt will have access to valuable restricted racing opportunities, including the Canadian Triple Crown program headed by the King’s Plate, while retaining the flexibility to compete in open company. There also is an appealing new partnership between the New York Racing Association and Woodbine racetrack in Toronto combining for the Empire Trillium series for Ontario-breds and New York-breds.
He will join Miguel Clement, continuing a family connection with Hard Spun highlighted by Hard Not to Like, whom his late father, Hall of Fame trainer Christophe Clement, guided to victories in the Gamely Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita and Diana Stakes (G1) at Saratoga.
Price includes acquisition, training, veterinary, and insurance expenses until January 1, 2028.
