Jace’s Road Speeds Onto Derby Picture With Gun Runner Win / Monday, December 26, 2022

Jace’s Road rumbled to a 5 1/2-length triumph on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, drawing off in Monday’s $100,000 Gun Runner Stakes at Fair Grounds in New Orleans. The soon-to-be 3-year-old colt now stands fourth on the Derby qualifying list with 13 points.

A son of Quality Road, Jace’s Road shot to the front and took command for jockey Florent Geroux. Turning for home, he spurted away decisively and was taken under wraps with 70 yards to go.

Brad Cox trains Jace’s Road for the racing partnership of West Point and co-owner Albaugh Family Stable. He was acquired at the 2021 Keeneland September yearling sale.

A debut winner last summer, Jace’s Road finished third in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill in September.
