McKelvey Wins Saratoga Challenge by a Nose, Free Ownership Experience / Friday, September 6, 2019

Roger McKelvey of Defiance, Ohio, prevailed by a single point in West Point Thoroughbreds’ Saratoga Challenge contest and scored a free ownership experience in a West Point New York-bred two-year-old colt.

In the Challenge, contestants selected their “team” of trainers, jockeys and West Point horses for the Saratoga meet and received points in each category for wins from the human connections and on a 5-3-1 scale from the WPT horses who finished first, second or third.

Roger wins a free ownership experience in Galway Empire, a 2-year-old colt preparing for his debut with Danny Gargan. He was purchased by West Point Thoroughbreds at the 2019 OBS March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale and is expected to debut on the NYRA circuit. The 2017 Saratoga Challenge winner won an ownership experience in the New York-bred Empire Line, who is now a stakes winner.

Roger will not receive any bills associated with Galway Empire. Experience includes access to horse communications, paddock, backstretch and (hopefully) winner’s circle, invitations to partner events, plus one percent of net purse distributions by West Point Thoroughbreds during Galway Empire’s racing career.
