Mount Up and Cagliostro Tackle 3yo Stakes This Weekend / Friday, September 22, 2023

After West Point Thoroughbreds scored a stakes win for the fourth weekend in a row last Saturday, three-year-old colts Mount Up and Cagliostro will take the baton with stakes chances this Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Mount Up is 7-to-2 on the morning line for Saturday’s $300,000 Harrods Creek Stakes for sophomores going seven furlongs on the main track at Churchill Downs. Emisael Jaramillo has the mount for trainer Todd Pletcher. Mount Up is coming off an allowance victory at Saratoga on August 20 with blinkers added. He owns two wins and two seconds from four career starts.

Cagliostro has been knocking on the door in Graded stakes company ahead of Sunday’s $400,000 Oklahoma Derby (G3) at Remington Park. Trained by Cherie DeVaux, the Florida-bred colt has finished third in the Grade 3 Indiana Derby and Grade 3 Smarty Jones Stakes in his last two starts.

Cristian Torres retains the mount on Cagliostro with post 4 in a field of 13.
