This bay colt from the first crop of Gunite gives us an opportunity to get involved with a young stallion who had exactly the kind of race record we look for — brilliant speed, durability, and the ability to perform at the highest level from two through four.

Gunite, a son of leading sire Gun Runner, won nine races and nearly $2.5 million during his career. He announced himself early with a victory in the Hopeful Stakes (G1) at Saratoga as a 2-year-old and returned two years later to capture the Forego Stakes (G1) over the same track. In between, he won the Amsterdam Stakes (G2) and several additional stakes while establishing himself as one of the most consistent high-class sprinters of his generation.

This colt is from Gunite’s first crop, giving West Point an opportunity to get in early on a stallion whose combination of precociousness, speed, and longevity gives him an intriguing chance to make an immediate impact with his runners.

His dam is by Street Sense, another major positive in the pedigree. The Kentucky Derby winner has developed into an accomplished broodmare sire, with his daughters already responsible for 50 black-type winners worldwide, including European Horse of the Year Roaring Lion and top American runners Mindframe and Good Cheer.

He will be trained by Cherie DeVaux, whose program continues to operate at the highest level, headlined by Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner Golden Tempo, Breeders’ Cup winner More Than Looks, and top sprinter Englishman, along with outstanding fillies including West Point’s Vahva and champion She Feels Pretty.
