Haystack Needle Wins at Big A: February 3, 2012
Apprentice jockey Juan Rodriguez followed directions perfectly aboard Haystack Needle in the sixth race at Aqueduct on Feb. 3, resulting in a wire-to-wire victory for the black and gold. “That was a great example of riding the horse the way he needed to be ridden,” said trainer Mike Hushion, who is winning at a 30% clip at the New York oval’s current meeting. “He relaxed great for Juan in the early part of the race and benefited from a strong ride to the wire once they hit mid-stretch. El Gato Malo to Sunday's San Antonio at Santa Anita: February 3, 2012
After considering the options and entering both Saturday’s $150,000 Arcadia (G2) on the turf and Sunday’s $200,000 San Antonio Stakes (G2) on the dirt at Santa Anita, El Gato Malo will start in the latter, West Point management decided earlier this week. Continue »

Dancing Compass Breaks Maiden at Parx: January 31, 2012
Dancing Compass got her first win by a nose at Parx Racing and Gaming Jan. 28 in what turned out to be a beneficial change of locations and surfaces. Our 4-year-old daughter of Orientate set the pace in a mile-long maiden claiming event on the dirt and held off a late run from Cascade’s Comet, one of nine other fillies and mares. She went the distance in a final time of 1:39.21 and paid $3.20 on a $2 ticket as the heavy favorite. Jockey Jose Flores was in the irons. Continue »

Belle of the Hall Returns to Winner's Circle: January 21, 2012
Belle of the Hall came flying with a late run to take the $60,000 third race allowance feature at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 20, setting herself up well for the rest of the season while awarding her Partners for their patience at the same time. Belle of the Hall broke last of seven under jockey Elvis Trujillo and benefited from a judicious ride, settling well off a swift pace set up front by Final Mesa with heavy favorite Strike the Moon in close pursuit. Strike the Moon began to edge away and led by three lengths going past the eighth pole, but Belle was ranging up on the outside - in perfect position to strike in the final sixteenth. Continue »
