This bay filly by Yaupon was purchased just hours after another member of Yaupon’s first crop, Stradale, delivered an impressive victory in the $400,000 Gallant Bob Stakes (G2) at Parx for her future trainer, Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen. Stradale has now won consecutive graded stakes and earned more than $600,000.

The timing was fitting considering the remarkable start Yaupon has made at stud. The brilliant Forego Stakes (G1) winner finished 2025 as the leading first-crop sire in North America, with 30 individual winners and nearly $3 million in progeny earnings. He has only strengthened his position in 2026 and currently leads the second-crop sire standings, with his first crop already producing a dozen stakes winners and six graded stakes winners this year.

The catalog reflects just how quickly Yaupon has emerged, with 12 black-type winners from only 133 starters, led by Wood Memorial (G2) winner Albus, along with graded stakes winners Booked and Arctic Beast.

This filly’s female family has produced plenty of toughness and longevity. Her second dam produced 11 winners, including multiple stakes winner Barrier Reef, while the extended family includes stakes winners Ahimsa, She Likes to Party, Taxpayer’s Folly, and Floor Me.

She was purchased in partnership with Leland Ackerley, whose relationship with the Asmussen family stretches back more than three decades. Ackerley began racing with Steve in the 1990s, and Valid Expectations gave them both an important early milestone when he became Asmussen’s first graded stakes winner in the 1996 Derby Trial. Ackerley has recently returned to racing at a high level with the Asmussen barn, including graded stakes winner Obliteration and 2026 Preakness starter Chip Honcho.

She will be trained by Steve Asmussen, North America’s all-time leading trainer by victories and a Hall of Famer whose résumé includes champions Curlin, Rachel Alexandra, Gun Runner, and Jackie’s Warrior.
