Riley Mott spent his childhood in the shedrow of his father, Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. At a young age, Riley decided to follow those sizable footsteps and pursue his own career as a horse trainer. Just 34 years old, he looks to be well on his way, already with two Grade 1 winners to his resume. He started both Albus and Incredibolt the 2026 Kentucky Derby.
Much like his father, Riley demonstrates remarkable versatility across different surfaces. He has captured major turf victories in the Saratoga Derby (G1) and Summer Stakes (G1), while also securing wins on the dirt in the Wood Memorial (G2) and Virginia Derby. Riley spent eight years serving as Bill’s assistant before striking out on his own in the fall of 2022. That formative period prepared him thoroughly for independence, highlighted by Country House’s Kentucky Derby victory and Eclipse Awards earned by champions Elite Power (male sprinter) and Elate (older female).
